Celebrating Four Years of Co-Creating

Since 2020, the has incubated collaborative projects that link regional community efforts with С¸£Àûµ¼º½ students, faculty, and staff.‌ On the occasion of the sunsetting of the Andrew W. Mellon foundation grant that launched the Initiative, all are in invited to dive into some of the projects brought to campus by MDOCS' inspiring community partners.

Events schedule:

‌Morning: Screening of film nominees for Golden Acorn Awards 
‌Luncheon: Celebrating community partnerships and С¸£Àûµ¼º½ engagements 
‌1-5 p.m.: Presentations celebrating community-based research, storytelling, and partnership‌:

  • 1 p.m.: Kanatsiohareke Mohawk Community: "Creating a digital community collection" 
  • ‌2 p.m.: Black Dimensions in Art: "Designing an archive-based exhibit" 
  • ‌3 p.m.: The Aunties Dandelion: "Interviewing Mohawk Ironworkers"
  • ‌4 p.m.: CREATE Community Studios: "Telling the story of Saratoga Urban Removal"

‌5 p.m.: Golden Acorn Awards Opening Reception 
‌6 p.m.: Golden Acorn Awards Ceremony

: Workshop with Thomas Talawa Presto

Thomas Talawa Presto, artistic director of Tabanka Dance, will lead this all-day workshop, focusing on his insights into improvisation as informed by his investigation of Gestorhythmitization and the Ewe embodied somatic practice known as Seselelame. Contact Kieron Sergeant with questions.
