Italian Cinema

What do Rossellini, De Sica, Visconti, Fellini, Wertmuller, Scola, Tornatore and Benigni have in common? С¸£Àûµ¼º½ in this seminar will examine 20th century Italian society’s crises and transformations by analyzing the social, political and cultural movements that have defined Italian culture through film and literature. С¸£Àûµ¼º½ will view and explore Italian cinematic Neorealism, examine the role in Italian cinema of Director-Authors, analyze Italian 20th century and classical literary works, and discuss cinematographic adaptations of those works. In additions, students will learn how to read a film and analyze the translation process from a literary text to film. Films in Italian with English subtitles.
